Plan to Protect Florida’s Seniors

March 18, 2026 0 Comments by Angel Ramos in News Press

“While Florida has taken steps to improve oversight and services for seniors, we still need stronger laws that directly increase penalties for those who scam and exploit the elderly. I will push for legislation that makes targeting seniors a harsher criminal offense with real consequences.”

Angel Ramos Announces Plan to Protect Florida’s Seniors and Hold Predators Accountable

Hillsborough County, FL — I am proud to announce a focused plan to support the protection and defend our senior citizens across Hillsborough County and the State of Florida by strengthening laws, improving enforcement, and holding accountable those who prey on elderly residents.

Florida is home to one of the largest senior populations in the country, and I believe protecting them must be a top priority. Too many bad actors target seniors through scams, financial exploitation, neglect, and abuse, and I am committed to putting a stop to it.

I will fight to strengthen penalties for individuals convicted of financially exploiting seniors. These crimes are not minor offenses—they often destroy the life savings of hardworking Floridians. Those responsible should face tougher penalties and be required to provide full restitution to their victims.

I will also work to improve coordination between local law enforcement, financial institutions, and state agencies to detect and stop fraud earlier. By increasing communication and rapid response efforts, we can prevent scams before more seniors are harmed.

In addition, I support expanding resources for investigating elder abuse and neglect in assisted living facilities and care settings. Families deserve peace of mind knowing their loved ones are safe, respected, and properly cared for. Facilities that fail to meet that standard must face swift and serious consequences.

I will also prioritize community education efforts to help seniors recognize and avoid common scams, including phone fraud, phishing schemes, and financial manipulation by those they trust.

Our seniors built the communities we live in today. They deserve security, dignity, and peace of mind. I will always stand up for them and work to ensure that anyone who exploits or abuses our seniors is held fully accountable.
